We want a pool that is close to nature as possible, is MagnaPool the answer?
A MagnaPool System is an environmentally-friendly, healthy alternative to a salt pool. The patented mix of Magnesium Chloride and Potassium Chloride provides a natural, safe alternative to traditional pool salt; however MagnaPool Minerals do not contribute to salinity. Every swim in a MagnaPool is a refreshing experience, due to the well-documented healing effects of Magnesium on your skin and hair and the calming effect on your nervous system.
MagnaPool have taken the guesswork out of your pool equipment by sizing all of the equipment for your pool to ensure the safest water possible. Many MagnaPool owners comment on the clarity of the water - it just shimmers - a pool that just invites you in for a swim.
A major benefit of the MagnaPool system is its water saving ability. At present a MagnaPool consumes significantly less water than a standard swimming pool containing a sand filter, with our Research & Development department constantly striving to reduce this further.
Where can I buy a MagnaPool system from?
The MagnaPool System is only available from selected environmentally-conscious pool professionals who are trained and qualified to MagnaPool standards. These people can be found on our website by clicking on "Interested?" on the MagnaPool home page.
Where can I buy MagnaBlu Minerals to top up my MagnaPool?
MagnaPools Minerals are only available through approved MagnaPool dealers or from MagnaPooldirect. Call or email us for more information.
Is MagnaPool water safe for my plants and lawn?
MagnaPool have many customers using waste water discharge to water plants and lawns with no ill effects reported. This is due to the lower salt level used in a MagnaPool and by reducing the quantity of water discharged. However, it is most important that you maintain correct water balance in your pool as MagnaPool water that is safe to swim in is generally safe for your plants. Every local council has specific waste water requirements and you should ensure that you comply with your local council guidelines.
Am I able to convert my existing pool to a MagnaPool?
At present only new pools can be built as a MagnaPool, however retrofitting will be available at some point in 2008.
What is the difference between a MagnaPool and a regular pool?
The main difference is the mineral mixture - a healthy, environmentally friendly option to standard salt. But a MagnaPool comes with many other benefits such as decreased water consumption, increased water clarity, better "feel" and taste of the water, softer skin and hair after swimming.
My MagnaPool has a white powder in the bottom of it. What is it and how do I get rid of it?
One of the unique benefits of a MagnaPool is the magnesium is a flocking agent that keeps your pool crystal clear. Generally this is unseen, however if your pool is out of balance this can sometimes precipitate out as magnesium hydroxide (or Milk of Magnesia), and can be easily rectified by lowering your pH. One of the many MagnaPool professionals can help you with this and can be contacted via the website.
My local pool shop tested my water and say the salt is low, what should I do?
Check if the pool shop used the correct levels for a MagnaPool. A MagnaPool should have a salt concentration of 3000ppm, which is lower than most traditional pool chlorinator systems. If your MagnaPool is at 3000ppm concentration or more and your MagnaPool Generator does not indicate ‘low salt’ then ensure your local pool shop is aware of the lower MagnaPool Mineral requirements.
I want to protect the pool surface in my MagnaPool. What calcium hardness and total alkalinity levels should I maintain in my pool?
The pool manufacturer’s guidelines for their pool surface should be followed. The MagnaPool Minerals used in the MagnaPool system will not affect the pool surface, however normal pool surface care will be required. See the MagnaPool parameters for our recommendations.
Does my MagnaPool require less chlorine than a normal pool?
Your MagnaPool needs 1-5ppm free chlorine to be sterile and comfortable. Maintaining this safe level of chlorine is easier with a properly maintained MagnaPool system. Chlorine levels are independent of the pool type and are required to be kept between 1-5ppm as outlined by Australian Standards (AS3633-1989 – Private Swimming Pool – Water Quality), available through your local pool shop.
Does my MagnaPool require UV stabilizer for the chlorine?
Yes, if it is an outdoor pool, your MagnaPool does require UV stabilizer. Consult your local pool shop on how to stabilize your pool.
Do I need to add phosphate starver to remove phosphate from my MagnaPool?
We recommend treating new pools with phosphate starver after the pool surface has cured. MagnaPool Minerals can remove small amounts of phosphate from the water over time in a properly balanced pool, however large concentrations of phosphate will overwhelm this natural protection.
I am having difficulty maintaining chlorine levels in my MagnaPool. What Should I do?
Chlorine is generated by the MagnaPool system and consumed in the pool during sanitisation. Chlorine reacts with undesirable materials in the pool, sterilising the water, however being consumed in the process. UV light also destroys chlorine. The most common cause of low chlorine readings is high chlorine demand (high use of chlorine in the pool) leaving no free chlorine in the water to be measured.
Check your MagnaPool pump and chlorinator are functioning correctly, and if needed, increase the percentage of chlorine production (refer to your MagnaPool owners handbook for this). Ensure your MagnaPool Generator is set to run long enough each day. During peak times such as summer holidays you may need to run your system a few hours longer each day.
Check the skimmer basket and clear it of leaves and debris. Check and clean any plant material from the pool surface and floor.
Can I add normal pool descaler to my MagnaPool if scaling occurs?
Normal pool descalers are compatible with the MagnaPool system. Some descalers contain phosphate (in the form of phosphoric acid). In pool water, phosphates are undesireable because they are a nutrient for algae. Please consult your MagnaPool dealer or local pool shop for a phosphate free descaler products. However, please note that the use of such chemicals is no substitute for proper recommended water balance and hardness parameters.
We want a pool that is close to nature as possible, is MagnaPool the answer?
MagnaPool will bring your pool water closer to natural than any other known and approved system currently available. However, please note that current Queensland Government Health Department Guidelines stipulate the use of a residual sanitiser (chlorine) with any system regardless of its type; Ozone or Ionisation or a Salt or Freshwater Pool. The residual level must be maintained at 1 - 3 parts per million for all domestic pools to ensure protection of bathers to introduced pathogens and bacteria. It is a Health Department requirement that all Ozone be destroyed prior to the treated water being returned to the pool, what this means is that if Ozone alone is used there will be no residual in the pool water, this then puts your bathers at risk. In conclusion, to comply with the current requirements, you will have to use some form of sanitiser, it does not have to be Sodium Hypochlorite, you could use Di-Chlor or Tri-Chlor in its place.
